Sony Ericsson set to launch 3 new phones
The Swedish/Japanese conglomerate last week released their plans for 3 brand new phones. The announcement came following the news that Sony Ericsson, the world’s fifth biggest mobile phone maker, have experienced a higher than expected second quarter profit figures.
The news came on the same day that market leader Nokia announced a drop in their quarterly figures as compared to 2003. This is in stark contrast to Sony Ericsson’s successful streak which sees the organisation sell double the amount of handsets this year as compared to this time last year. To put this into a monetary context, sales have increased from 1.1 billion euro last year to 1.5 billion euro this year which is estimated to be 34% higher than the market forecast.
The Sony Ericsson Corporation came into being after Japanese company Sony, and Swedish organisation Ericsson decided to join forces in 2001. They put much of their recent success down to the popularity of their camera phones. In order to further capitalise on this the company have made the decision to launch another two camera phones to join the already booming range. The third phone will be aimed at “mobile business professionals” possibly as competition for the hugely successful Blackberry range.
As for future plans, Sony Ericsson is set to build on their strong position within the mobile phone market by concentrating upon imaging, audio, video and gaming and also 3G services to ensure they continue to evolve and stay at the cutting edge of innovative technology.
